A late goal by William saved Arsenal from defeat in their first group match of the 2008 - 2009 UEFA Champions League.
Arsenal started in well, fashioning a number of chances which they failed to take.
They should have scored a number of times but went into the interval 0-0.
Kiev were awarded what looked to be a harsh penalty (64min) given when Bacary Sagna brought down Ognjen Vukojevic and Ismael Bangoura scored from the spot.
Kiev played well at times and the crowd got behind them making life hard for the Gunners who as usual were patiently trying to build their play and find an opening through the Ukrainians stubborn defence.
In the 88th minute Theo Walcott passed a lovely low ball across the six line box and Gallas was there at the far post to tap in.
Arsenal deserved a point.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger:
"The game is a mixture of frustration and relief."
"Frustration because it was agame that should have been over at half-time as we created clear-cut chances."
"It was relief as we were 1-0 down with three minutes to go. Our level dropped in the second half and we didn't create as many chances as we wanted."
