Arsene Wenger named a young side for the first leg of this qualifier, which included a competitive debut for 17-year-old Aaron Ramsey.

But it was the experience of captain William Gallas and Togo striker Emmanuel Adebayor which proved decisive with two opportunist strikes in the second half.

Gallas scored a scrappy goal and Adebayor a tap in.

The teams meet again at the Emirates Stadium in a fortnight's time. Arsenal look favourites to qualify to the lucrative group stages.
