Name: Amy Hall
Company:amykathryn
There's a dominant 'designer' gene running in the Hall family. Both Amy Hall's mother and grandmother were successful designers. Specialising in five-star hotels and palatial homes.
Amy Hall is influenced by Africa, which she visited as a child.
She has a degree in Anthropology from the University of Arizona.
In 1999, she opened a gallery specializing in museum-quality furniture and art.
Amy then turned her attention to her natural affinity for fine Italian fabrics, particularly in accessories.
amykathryn
In 2002, amykathryn handbags was born. Celebrities took notice, and the product line took off. Keeping up with demand became a challenge: Luckily Amy Hall was more than up to it!
Amy stands out not only for her incredible designs (which are all animal-friendly), but also because of her altruistic nature: amykathryn designs contributes to several different charities, including The Grammy's MusiCares Foundation and The Diabetes Research Foundation.
Inspiration
Amy Hall drew inspiration from her days surrounded by beautiful fabrics and textiles, and her numerous trips around the world. "Going to Africa as a child changed my perspective on life," she says. "The organic nature of Africa and the colors! Africa’s colors lit the creative flame within me." Hall attributes these travels and her bead and antique collections to her inspiration for her handbags.
The materials are refreshing, each hand-printed pattern like a dance across the exquisite fabrics.
Earth Friendly
These bright colors combined with an eco-friendly faux leather are also key to her rising success.
"I decided to base my design on something that is wearable, but also something that is earth friendly. There is definitely a need for an affordable, stylish bag out there, and I believe the future of this industry is moving away from killing our animals in the name of fashion."
Hall’s compassionate and light-hearted attitude shines through in her designs, and her persistence has paid off. Working full-time on her line, amykathryn, since 2005, keeping up with the sales pace has made it nearly impossible for Hall to devote herself to pure design.
Family Team
Fortunately, her mother, Mary, and sister, Maria, have happily joined the team to work on expanding the company. To have my family involved, Hall says, is just the icing on the cake.
Amy has a large range of beautifully designed and made bags.
