Bolton Wanderers 0-0 Blackburn Rovers

Bolton haven't beaten local rivals Blackburn at home since 2000.
It was a game of few chances.
Matt Taylor played well for Bolton. He came closest when hitting the post.
Not the greatest game.

Bolton manager Gary Megson:
"We have to look at it as two points dropped given the opportunities we created.

"Our failings this season are the same as last year. When we are on top we do not seem able to finish teams off.

"We have not got enough people in the team who are scoring goals. A lot of the time we are dependent on the same faces."

Blackburn boss Paul Ince:
"They are very direct and we stood up to that threat and our two central defenders were world class.

"We should have got three points because Jason Roberts had a golden chance and he knows it.

"We did not get drawn into their way of playing and we tried to get the ball down and play.

"People have said every since I came to the club that we do not have character but we have shown in this game and against Everton a never-say-die spirit and have been very resolute."

Bolton: Jaaskelainen, Steinsson (Joey O'Brien 77), Andrew O'Brien, Cahill, Samuel, McCann, Davies, Nolan, Muamba (Gardner 69), Taylor (Riga 86), Elmander.
Subs Not Used: Al Habsi, Hunt, Smolarek, Shittu.

Booked: Steinsson.

Blackburn: Robinson, Simpson, Nelsen, Samba, Ooijer, Emerton, Villanueva (Derbyshire 62), Kerimoglu, Warnock, Fowler (Andrews 74), Roberts (McCarthy 78).
Subs Not Used: Brown, Grella, Khizanishvili, Treacy.

Booked: Simpson, Villanueva, Kerimoglu.

Blackburn Rovers Blackburn Rovers have appointed Sam Allardyce as their new manager on a three-year contract.

The Lancashire club sacked Paul Ince on Tuesday and made it clear they wanted a new boss at the helm for Saturday's home game against Stoke.

"I'm very pleased indeed, I'll say more at the news conference on Thursday," said 54-year-old Allardyce.

Paul IncePaul Ince has been sacked by Blackburn Rovers after six months as manager of the Lancashire club.
Ince has been in charge for just 17 Barclays Premier League matches but paid the price for a run of six successive league defeats with Rovers taking just one point from a possible 33.

The Ewood Park side are currently second from bottom and in danger of relegation forcing the board to reluctantly make a change.

A club statement said:

"It is with great sadness the Board announce that Paul Ince is to leave the club. After a Board meeting yesterday it was decided to relieve Paul of his duties.

The Board, having selected Paul back in June, were desperate for him to succeed and wanted to give him as much time as possible in the unforgiving environment of Premier League management where time is such a precious commodity."

Chairman John Williams said "Three wins in 17 games has seen a squad, which finished seventh last season, fall to 19th position. We are currently in real danger of becoming detached from the pack.

"The survival of the club in the Premier League is paramount and our focus now is on finding a replacement who will be able to maintain our top division status.

"Paul will bounce back, he is a fighter and we wish him well."
