Ricky HattonRicky Hatton bounced back from his defeat by Floyd Mayweather to retain his IBO light-welterweight title with a unanimous points win over Juan Lazcano.
Hatton bravely took the fight to the Mexican. The judges scored the fight 120-110 118-110 120-108.
The fight took place at the Eastlands stadium in Manchester in front of 55,000 home town fans. Hatton won easily but had to survive a couple of scary moments as Lazcano rallied in rounds eight and 10.
Paulie Malignaggi who had a uninspiring points win over Lovemore N'Dou is being lined up as Hatton's next opponent. Observers commented that Hatton doesn't look as if he has much left in the tank. Fighting for the first time since being knocked out by Mayweather in December, Hatton entered the stadium to his traditional pre-fight anthem 'Blue Moon' wearing an inflatable "fat" suit, a jibe at those who have criticised his lifestyle.
Lazcano was lined up for Hatton to make him look good. The former lightweight shouldn't have troubled Hatton but at the end of the fight Hatton's face looked battered.

It looks like Hatton can't finish like he used to. He's also taking too many shots. A heavier puncher would have finished Hatton off easily. Retirement calls may be premature, but taking punches isn't healthy and Hatton has made his money. It might just be the best option he has.

Ricky HattonRicky Hatton says he is fully fit to face Juan Lazcano later this month after recovering from illness.

Manchester's Hatton, 29, faces the Mexican at home in  the City of Manchester stadium on 24 May.

There had been fears he might have to pull out of the bout. "A couple of weeks ago I had a virus but I just had to work around it and take a few days off," said Hatton. "I'm fine now. It was blown out of proportion, mainly by my dad but the fight was never in jeopardy." ... more
