Manchester City 1-3 Chelsea
Manchester City took the lead against Chelsea with a debut-day opener from record signing Robinho. The British transfer record of £32.5m paid bt City snatched Robinho from Chelsea and he looked like his contribution of a superb free kick would set City on their way to a first win against Chelsea for a very long time.
But Chelsea stepped up a gear and scored three times without reply, with Ricardo Carvalho, Frank Lampard and Nicolas Anelka each scoring, to register a seventh straight win over City.
England captain John Terry was sent off for a professional foul, but ten man Chelsea won easily.
