Avram Grant has been sacked as manager of Chelsea. After only eight months in charge Grant has been dismissed just days after Chelsea's loss on penalties to Manchester United in the Champion's League final.
Chelsea were beaten into second place in the Premier league, again by United. They also lost the Carling Cup final earlier this season to Spurs.
Chelsea's billionaire owner and close friend of Grant, Roman Abramovich obviosly decided coming second so many times wasn't good enough anf that a new face is needed at 'The Bridge'.
Grant took over from fans favourite José (The Special One) Morinjho. The Israeli had a difficult job winning over the supporters. A league title, Carling cup, and Champion's league victory would have helped his cause but it was not to be.
In a statement on the Chelsea website the club said that the search for a new coach would now begin and that the club will make no further comment.
The statement said: "Chelsea Football Club can confirm that Avram Grant has had his contract as manager terminated today. This follows meetings over the last two days.
"Everybody at Chelsea FC would like to thank Avram for his contribution since taking over as manager last September.
"We will now be concentrating all our efforts on identifying a new manager for Chelsea and there will be no further comment until that appointment is made."
The future of Chelsea assistants Steve Clarke and Henk Ten Cate is unclear and no official word has yet been given on their positions.
Odds on a second coming of 'The Special One' were slashed from 20/1 to 8/1 by British bookmakers.
