- Children should be encouraged and enabled to fulfil their potential.
- We challenge inequalities for children and young people.
- Every child must have someone to turn to.
Acknowledgement
In order to provide the best and most professional service Childline Gibraltar has been modelled on the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) Helpline Service in the United Kingdom.
Mission
Childline Gibraltar’s mission is to end cruelty to children in Gibraltar. Our vision is a society in which all children are loved, valued and able to fulfil their potential. In other words, a society that will not tolerate child abuse - whether sexual, physical, emotional, or neglect.
Services Available
- At present Childline Gibraltar is only able to offer a free Helpline Service.
- Calls to the Helpline (telephone number 8008) are free of charge, and are not recorded on telephone bills.
- Calls made on mobile “reload” cards are also free, so you will not lose any credit on your card.
- The Helpline Service is open between 6pm and 10pm, 7 days a week including public holidays.
- Our telephone helpline volunteers are trained to offer assistance and advice on a range of child welfare issues and on problems faced by children and young people. Issues such as:
- Physical and sexual abuse
- Child neglect and deprivation
- Bullying
- Teenage pregnancy
- Relationship problems
- Dealing with exam stress
- Eating disorders
- Good parenting
- Coping with difficult children
Volunteers
Childline Gibraltar’s telephone helpline volunteers are not necessarily professionally qualified counsellors and, as such, do not provide counselling services. However, any caller in need of or who requests counselling services will be directed to the Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists, the members of which are all professionally qualified counsellors.
Public Awareness
Childline Gibraltar has also adopted a pro-active strategy of public awareness to increase understanding of child welfare issues. This strategy includes Information Resources on Child Protection and related topics to the general public.
