RANKING (MASTERS SINGLES) FOR 2010
“Clash of the Titans”

With a median age of 30.5 per event, the sport of darts in Gibraltar is attracting the whole spectrum of ages between 18 to 65 and this was reflected in the recent Masters Singles competition contested recently.

ranking_masters_singles_for_2010.jpg

Semi-finalists (left to right) Dylan Duo, Henry Zapata, Dyson Parody, Dayle Ramirez

In the board finals, Dylan Duo had a comfortable win against Karl Mena who did well in
overcoming Alan Kimberley in the previous round. Dyson Parody managed to see off Eric Asquez 4 – 1. Dayle Ramirez played well to beat Francis Taylor (never an easy feat) and lastly the closest semi-final between Henry Zapata and George Ramos were Henry managed to compose himself in the last leg to come through after a close 4 – 3
encounter.

The semis were contested between Dylan Duo vs Henry Zapata and Dayle Ramirez vs
Dyson Parody. Both semis concluded 5 – 1 to both Dylan & Dyson, however it must be
said that the score line should have reflected a closer margin of difference as both Henry & Dayle played well but missed their chances on several occasions. Dayle played
exceptionally well in a few legs, hitting on one occasion a 13 dart leg.

The final started well with Dylan checking out on a massive 160 with Dyson Parody sitting on 50. This could only mean one thing; we were in for a treat from the titans of the sport.
In the second leg Dylan finished double 5 with Dyson waiting to pounce on 70.
The third leg also went Dylan’s way in a 14 dart leg and Dyson’s fate was starting to look grim being 3 nil down. However in an upturn of events Dyson did hit back to make it 3 all, which included a tops finish (with Dylan sitting on 18), a double ten (with Dylan having missed a 120 out-shot) and lastly a 104 finish in 15 darts.

At 3 all, it was anyone’s game once again. Dylan took the next leg to secure a 4 – 3 lead and Dyson squared it up which included missing a 130 finish in the process. Dylan had a good next leg and completed it in 14 darts and proceeded to take the tenth leg too giving him the title by a 6 – 4 deficit.

Commiserations to Dyson Parody, Congratulations to Dylan Duo!

Close to a year ago, Duncan Stewart returned to official darts and he started his campaign in this same event.
One year on, he finds form to win it!

johnny_neale_charity_2009

After a recent ranking and being tipped as a player that is hitting form, Duncan Stewart proved to all that he is well suited for the short format of double in double out.
Last year he reached the semi-finals and a few top dogs were sent packing then too.

The event as usual attracted a good number of participants (30 players) and the GDA is very grateful to everyone that turned up as the monies raised goes toward charity, in memory of the late dart player Johnny Neale.

Route to Semi-finals Duncan Stewart (snr) beat Nigel Segui, Mario Agius, Harry Parody Francis Taylor beat George Federico, Tich Olivero, Dylan Duo Dyson Parody beat Carl Thomas, Kevin Negron, Justin Stagno Alan Kimberley beat Derek de los Santos, Mike Birkett, Eric Segui

Semi-finals
In the semi’s Francis Taylor’s excellent run came to an end against Dyson Parody. In the other semi Duncan Stewart (snr) defeated Alan Kimberley.

Final Duncan Started strong and was quickly one up, it was Dyson who returned the favour to level the game. In the final leg they were both neck and neck with a few chances missed. It was Duncan who in the end composed himself and took the game. Commiserations to Dyson Parody, Congratulations to Duncan Stewart (snr)!

“Last years top four seeds steal the show”

Last year’s top four seeds steal the show and all gain valuable points in the ranking tables for this year.
The final was closely fought between Dylan Duo and Dyson Parody after their matches against Henry Zapata and Francis Taylor respectively, which were enthralling to say the least.

Gibraltar Darts

Left to Right
Dylan Duo, Henry Zapata, Dyson Parody, Francis Taylor

Dylan who played exceptionally well all evening had a very tough game against Henry in the semi-final, even though the final score could suggest otherwise (6 - 1).

Just check out the photo above on the last leg when Henry scored 3 x 140’s and still
lost the match. Hard luck Henry!

Dyson’s equally tough match against the ever-present Francis Taylor, was a cracker too. It was however Dyson who took advantage at certain times and he came out on top.

So, that left Dylan and Dyson to contest the final and at 6-4 as a result you can bet your wages that it was a thriller and a joy to watch.

Commiserations to Dyson Parody, Congratulations to Dylan Duo!

“Kayra Duo - lady of the match”.

Both events were played even though the GDA experienced a very low attendance in
most probably its 50 year history. These mixed competitions are traditional fixtures in
the yearly calendar of events and the darts fraternity felt it would be a pity to
discontinue them. It is quite surprising and disappointing as the ladies international
scene is stronger than ever.

Luckily enough for the men, the spouses of longstanding players showed their
support by contributing to a successful and enjoyable evening.
The mixed pairs final was contested between Kayra Duo, Dylan Duo, against Ana
Maria Pecino, Jadrian Pecino.

The mixed trebles final was contested between Kayra Duo, Dylan Duo, Justin Broton
against Ana Maria Pecino, Jadrian Pecino, Dyson Parody.
Kayra Duo in both the mixed pairs & trebles contributed greatly by getting good
scores and hitting several crucial doubles.

In the mixed trebles final and after being
2-0 down the Duos’ & Broton team managed to square it 2-2.
In the final leg it was
anyone’s game until Kayra Duo stepped up to the board and with her final dart got
the winning double 3.

The GDA also decided to contest a blind pairs competition seeing there were 16
eager men wanting to have a game that evening (practice for upcoming Pro events).
It was the pairing of Nicholas Cumbo & Henry Zapata who beat a strong Jadrian
Pecino & Brian Consigliero in the final.

The GDA reminds ladies that the position is available for participation in your own
ladies league with prospects of representing and traveling throughout Europe & the
rest of the world, get in touch!!!!

Any locals or services ladies should get in contact if
interested on 54022622 (Justin).

Commiserations to Ana Maria Pecino, Jadrian Pecino, Dyson Parody

Congratulations to Kayra Duo, Dylan Duo, Justin Broton!
