Walks Through History
As part of the 2008 Summer Sports and Leisure programme, Dr Darren Fa of the Gibraltar Museum will be continuing the popular ‘Walks through history’ on the following three Thursday mornings:
Thursday 17th July - ‘The Upper Rock’
Meet at the cable car station at Governor’s Parade at 09.50 hours. The visit will include a complimentary cable car ride to the top station followed by a walk down visiting various historical sites including the newly refurbished Charles V Wall.
Thursday 24th July - ‘Gibraltar from the Sea’
Meet at Marina Bay by the Dolphin Adventurer boat at 09.15 hours. The visit will include a complimentary boat trip to view historical sites from the sea as well as seeing local marine life.
Thursday 31st July - ‘Windmill Hill Flats’
Meet outside Devil’s Bellows (just past Sunset Close further up the hill) at 09.50 hours. This visit will be an opportunity to access this historic area that is usually off-limits to the public. The visit will be co-hosted by Warrant Officer Pete Jackson and will include a short lecture, a viewing of the 19th century Rock Model at Buffadero and a walk along the various historic fortifications that line the cliffs.
The excursions are aimed at children between the ages of nine and twelve years, and there is a maximum limit of 20 children per walk.
Parents and/or guardians are welcome to accompany them so long as spaces are available.
