Hull City have broken the club's transfer record to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Anthony Gardner for £2.5million.
The England international, has been on loan with the Tigers, and has signed a three-year contract.
Tigers' manager Phil Brown said: "We had an option to make the deal permanent at any stage, so I spoke to him and asked him if he would be happy to stay."
"He has been at the club for four or five weeks now and he said he would, so he now becomes our record signing."
Brown said: "Anthony did go there [Spurs] with high expectations. He got an England cap and things were running quite smoothly when he first arrived but then he hit a brick wall in terms of selection, injuries, form, pressure at the club. A lot of things got in the way and hopefully we can get his career back on track."
Hull have also signed Wigan Athletic striker Marlon King on a season-long loan. The Barclays Premier League newcomers have been in discussions with the 28-year-old for several weeks as they bid to strengthen their squad ahead of this weekend's season opener.
Latics manager Steve Bruce said: "We wish Marlon all the best. He is a good pro and he made a contribution last season. He has worked hard in pre-season and has made an impact, but he has chosen to move on for the time being."
