Robert Kubica Canadian Grand Prix 2008

A year ago it was the scene of Lewis Hamilton's first Grand Prix win.
Robert Kubica was injured in one of the most dramatic high speed crashes seen in recent years. Fortunately he had only a sprained ankle but it looked as if it was going to be a lot worse. Testimony to the design safety of these cars.
Everything was on course for a repeat of 2007 with Hamilton sitting on pole and confidence high after winning at Monaco.
But the Canadian circuit is prone to stoppages and safety cars are common sights.

Whether the safety car needed to go out is debatable but it did.  The pit lane opened. The leaders dived in. Raikkonnen left the pits first and stopped at a red light at the pit exit. Hamilton on losing his lead in the pits was concentrating on switching all the preset buttons needed to get a F1 car from pit lane mode to racetrack mode and didn't notice the red light until too late. Despite braking hard he hit the back of Raikkonen's Ferrari causing severe damage to both cars resulting in forced retirements on lap 20.
Hamilton was given a ten place grid penaltry for the French Grand Prix which means he'll start at best 11th on the grid at Magny Cour. Typically the winner comes from the first four grid positions so a major set back for Hamilton's title hopes.

Lewis HamiltonCongratulations to Lewis Hamilton on becoming Formula One World Champion 2008.

At the penultimate corner, Hamilton passed Glock to claim fifth place - and with it the title.

The drama started before the race when a very heavy shower delayed the race and teams switched to intermediate (wet) tyres.

Hamilton kept out of trouble and was settling for the 4/5th spot he needed to win the title.

But rain intervened again in the final laps.
leading to an amazing last lap drama.

Lewis HamiltonAfter a rollercoaster season of F1 races, steward's enquiries, appeals and a few crazy moments. The F1 Driver's Championship  comes to the final race today at Interlagos in Brazil.

The grid positions were decided yesterday and it wasn't a good qualifying session for Hamilton.

His only rival for the championship Philipe Massa was on pole position. Hamilton finished fourth.
He has both Ferraris in front of him and more worryingly his nemesis Fernando Alonso behind him.

Lewis HamiltonLewis Hamilton won the Chinese Grand Prix. Leading all the way in a boring yet tense race.

Boring because the front four on the grid finished in the first four positions.
Tense because the track was covered in marbles from the tyres, and Hamilton's team-mate Heikki Kovalainen had a puncture which could have happened to any of the drivers at any time.

Other than a first lap duel between Alonso and Kovalainen there was little overtaking.
No pit lane incidents.
No dodgy decisions by stewards.

Raikkonen and Massa swapped positions towards the end of the race to ensure Massa got an extra two points.

Fernando AlonsoFernando Alonso won the Japanese Grand Prix. After driving a perfect race to follow up on his win in Singapore.

A poor start by Lewis Hamilton from pole position saw him try to regain the lead by braking late into the first corner. He ran wide taking Raikonnen with him.
He rejoined the race behind title rival Massa who he overtook but Massa after leaving te track ran into amilton making Hamilton spin and putting im last
Hamilton flat spotted his tyres and had to pit.
