Matt Wins X Factor

Matt Wins X Factor

Bookies' favourite Matt Cardle has been crowned the winner of this year's X Factor.
The 27-year-old former painter and decorator declared "I'm so proud" after his name was called out by host Dermot O'Leary.

Cardle, from Colchester, Essex, beat fellow finalist Liverpudlian Rebecca Ferguson to take the 2010 title of the ITV1 talent show.
Earlier in the show, five-piece boy band One Direction were named as the third place runners up.
Cardle appeared overwhelmed by his win, walking straight across to hug runner up Ferguson and thanking "everyone" including his ecstatic mentor Dannii Minogue.

Ferguson was graceful in defeat, saying: "I'm so grateful, Matt is amazing, I'm happy I got this far."
Cardle, overwhelmed by emotion, then took to the stage to perform his winner's single. After completing the track, he joked: "I hope next time I sing it, I sing it a little bit better than that."
Simon Cowell added: "I've got to hand it to you Matt, you are one heck of a nice guy, you sang your way to win this show."

Cheryl Cole's No Vote Was Rehearsed

Cheryl Cole's No Vote Was Rehearsed

The Cheryl Cole vote plot has thickened after host Dermot O'Leary described backstage plans while attempting to clarify the X Factor voting system.
Dermot defended the X Factor judges saying:
"We always said we were going to go to a majority verdict. The precedent has been there since my first ever live show. Sharon did exactly the same thing. We thought it might happen, during the break we always know who's going to be in the bottom two but we never know which way the judges are going to vote."
Critics have lashed out saying that producers unusually forced Cheryl to vote before the other judges had cast their vote, meaning that she was always going to refuse and have her vote taken away.
To further confound matters, eventual loser Treyc Cohen is rumoured to have received three times more public votes than Katie. If this was true and Cheryl had voted, Treyc would still be in the competition.
X Factor fans are still calling for Cheryl to lose her 1.7 million pound job after the scandal.

Corrie Stars Get MBEs

Corrie Stars Get MBEs

Coronation Street veterans Barbara Knox and Eileen Derbyshire have praised the enduring appeal of the soap after receiving MBEs.
The actresses have notched up almost 100 years of combined service on the "Street" playing characters that have endeared themselves to millions of viewers since they first joined the cast in the 1960s.
Knox, 77, is best known to viewers as flame-haired stalwart of The Kabin, Rita Sullivan, while co-star Derbyshire, 79, has played one of TV's most enduring figures, having first appeared as Emily Bishop nearly half a century ago.

Speaking after the Buckingham Palace investiture ceremony the 77-year-old actress said: "It's very overwhelming quite honestly because it's something I've done all my life and loved and suddenly I've got an honour.
"I suppose we do give a service, so many millions love the programme, so there you are - it's still very surprising."
Asked whether the Queen is a fan of the soap Knox replied: "I'm rather led to believe she does watch when she has time and she has visited the Street so she does know about it."

Both actresses praised fellow cast members and the work of those behind the scenes from the director and writers to make-up artists for making the long-running series a success.
Knox said: "They are a great team of actors and they are portraying marvellous people with great humour.
"We have marvellous storylines, very strong ones, and we have hit a nerve with the nation for almost 50 years and that's pretty special for a programme to do that.
"Australia, New Zealand, Canada, all these places adore the Street so we must be doing something right."

Snoop Dogg Builds His Own Rovers Return

Snoop Dogg Builds His Own Rovers Return

Rapper Snoop Dogg is well known as a Coronation Street fan.
Now he has taken his love for the show to another level by telling the press he wants to build a replica of the Rovers Return.
Snoop declared in June that he wanted a cameo, citing Elliot's butchers as the perfect place for him to pop up.
However, with Elliot's under threat after the news that owner Ashley (Steven Arnold) will be crushed in a tram crash perhaps Snoop is looking for a better way to pay homage to his favourite soap.
Will Betty's hotpot be on the menu? The rapper promised it will.
"Nothing will stop me serving Betty's hotpot in my pub, man. If it didn't serve hotpot it wouldn't be a proper Rovers Return."
Now all eyes are on EastEnders for a celebrity rapper endorsement.
Perhaps 50 Cent running the chip shop or Dre starting as the next Dr Legg?
