A 38 year old British man on his honeymoon has drowned on the Carvajal beach in Fuengirola.
He has been named as Kevin Russell Hawkes. Ambulance paramedics tried in vain to resuscitate Mr Hawkes as his bride watched on.
He had had decided to take a swim at 4:15pm yesterday despite the large waves seen on the beach at the time.
He was soon in difficulties some 50m from the shore.
A group of surfers tried to help, but by the time they reached Mr Hawkes he was unconscious.
The couple was staying in the Gardenia hotel Fuengirola.
National Court judge, Baltasar Garzón, has opened a case against the Franco administration for crimes against humanity, blaming them for the disappearance of 114,266 people.
A small bomb has exploded on a beach in the Costa del Sol resort of Guadalmar following a warning call, causing no injuries and little damage.
