After 30 minutes, Duff & Martins are looking sharp and lively for Newcastle, who are looking likely to extend their lead.

Against the run of play W.B.A. nearly equalise. Given saves well from Morrison who was through one on one (35 mins).

On 41 minutes Obafemi Martins is unmarked and scores with a good header from ten yards out.
Terrible defending, West Brom manager Tony Mowbray is not going to be happy at half-time.

On 64 minutes Coloccini is caught flat-footed by a great defence splitting pass by Koren. Miller takes the ball around Given and scores for West Brom.

Twenty minutes to go and West Brom are pushing for an equaliser.
Goalscorer Miller nearly gets lucky with a double ricochet after a free kick went into the Newcastle wall.

A nerve racking finale for the Newcastle crowd.

Newcastle hang on to claim all three points, lifting them up to fifteenth place in the league, until tomorrow night's matches.

Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear:
"I'm very happy. I think we are on the up. It is a great night for everybody here.

"I know its an old cliche but nobody wants to be in the bottom three. Nobody likes being in that position but if we can carry on now and get a second win then that would be great.

"If we can get a second victory back to back then it would be a completely different picture altogether, and it will give everybody a lot more confidence."

West Brom manager Tony Mowbray:
"In the first half we just didn't cope defensively. We tightened up after half-time and created a few chances, but if you defend like that you probably don't deserve anything.

"At the moment we are not clinical enough, but we are creating enough chances to win football matches. "
