Alan Curbishley has resigned as manager of West Ham United. He claims that a lack of control over the club's transfer policy has led to him feeling it necessary to step down from his post.
Anton Ferdinand and George McCartney have both been transfered to Sunderland.
It is believed Curbisley was unaware of the transfer of McCartney on the final day of the transfer window.
This follows Kevin Keegan's sacking/resignation/public confrontation. (Take your pick).
The bookies are unsure who to pay out on for the first Premier league manager to leave bet.
It looks quite probable Keegan was verbally fired and then the board saw the public reaction and retracted.
However as this has been denied by the club the bookies may pay out on Curbishley.
Criticism of Curbishley's transfer record has been swift to follow.
The board have also refuted Curbishley's claims he wasn't in control of clubs transfer policy. Stating he was present at a meeting in April.
No fans protest about the Curbishley sacking ...?
Are West Ham United fans pleased he's gone?Comment below.
Our CommentApril seems a long time ago ... perhaps Alan is telling the truth.
He's well regarded in the game and you've got to admire his stand.
Football does seem to be moving towards billionaire owners hand picking which players they want to buy.
The manager turns up at the training ground and trains whoever the board has bought.
Unfortunately for the manager, if the board get it all wrong, it's the manager who is blamed.
Not very fair, and we should be proud that managers like Curbishley and Keegan have the integrity to stand up and say "no more I'm not standing for this".
