Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Mike Pollitt has agreed a new one-year deal with the club.
The 36-year-old made just one league appearance last season due to the form and fitness of Chris Kirkland but has been persuaded to play on by manager Steve Bruce.
"Polly's a terrific goalkeeper and I'd have no hesitation in playing him in any game," said Steve Bruce.
"He understands the situation that Chris has possession of the shirt at the minute but that can change and you need at least two good goalkeepers competing, to bring the best out in each other."
Pollitt said: "I really like it here, it's a good club and there's a great team spirit. Steve Bruce has breathed new life into the place over the past six months and it's a real happy ship at the moment. "
"Nigel Spink is a great coach and I'm really enjoying it, despite not getting the games I would like. Of course I'd like to play more, every player would, but Chris has been in magnificent form for us over the past couple of seasons and you can't argue with that."
"I want to do everything I can to compete for the shirt, but I have to be realistic."
